Egypt’s Mufti Calls for Protection and Empowerment of Women on International Day against Violence

On the International Day for Ending Violence against Women, His Eminence Grand Mufti of Egypt, President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, Dr. Nazir Mohammad Ayyad, reaffirmed that protecting women and safeguarding their dignity is both a religious and national duty, forming a cornerstone for social stability and a secure future. He praised all women striving for a dignified life, as well as institutions working to combat violence and raise societal awareness.

The Grand Mufti emphasized that Islam enshrines the honor of women and strictly prohibits any form of abuse. He called for coordinated efforts among religious, educational, media, and legislative institutions, alongside the state’s initiatives to enact laws and support programs that protect women. He warned that violence against women threatens the very fabric of society, wasting valuable potential, and stressed that empowering and safeguarding women is both a national and humanitarian responsibility.

Dr. Ayad also expressed solidarity with women living in conflict zones, urging the international community to uphold their duty in protecting their rights and alleviating their suffering.
