Ruling on cash transfers and withdrawals from E-Wallets
Question
What is the ruling on cash transfers and withdrawals from E-Wallets?
The inquirer says, “My work entails the transfer of cash via an electronic wallet. I earn a commission for every transfer or withdrawal. I conduct the transactions by WhatsApp or the phone, whereby the client either calls me or provides the number to which the money is to be sent together with the amount to be transferred. The client subsequently pays me the commission we agreed upon (5 or 10 EGP on every 1000 EGP) at the end of the day or one or two days later without any increase for the delay. Is this permissible or prohibited? Does it fall under the principle that states, "Every loan that incurs a benefit is interest (riba)"?
Answer
Based on the above and in reference to the question:
The transaction described in the question is permissible in Islamic law as it constitutes a type of agency contract. However, it must be concluded in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations, as well as with the terms established between the individual performing this task and the organizing company.
