In his speech delivered in the International Ulema Conference on Peace and Security in Afghanistan, currently held in Jeddah by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawki Allam, confirmed that terrorism and extremism know no religion or homeland. He added that terrorism is the product of corrupt minds, hardened hearts, and arrogant egos.

Dr. Allam considered that the aberrant fatwas issued by the extremists are the main cause for spreading violence and waves of hatred worldwide. “The craft of issuing fatwa is not an easy process such that anyone can be bold enough to undertake or rush to claim their ability therein,” he said.

The Grand Mufti presented the strides made by Dar al-Ifta in combating extremism through the establishment of the Observatory for monitoring takfiri fatwas and extremist ideologies in response to Muslims’ need to learn the sound teachings of Islam.
