Part of his current official visit to the Pakistani Republic, Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawki Allam delivered the keynote speech in Pakistan’s conference titled “A National Narrative to Counter Extremism”. He confirmed that we are suffering from a peculiar state of hostility and misrepresentation of Islam, propelled and practiced by numerous controlled media outlets, especially after 9/11 and the ensuing terrorism across the globe.

Dr. Allam pointed out in his speech that terrorism is directed at society at large and not at a particular person or security apparatus. Therefore, the entire society must unite and stand up against it. He stressed that Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta has from early on made extensive use of modern means of communication by addressing an audience of nearly eight million through the living world languages. The Dar also took a pioneering step by establishing in its premises The General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, an entity comprising fatwa authorities from all over the world, with the aim of establishing a true connection between qualified muftis.

“The scholars, guardians and protectors of religion and of the Islamic doctrine, must know that they shoulder the great responsibility of correcting misconceptions, of repelling extremist ideas, and of spreading the true and tolerant values of religion,” The Grand Mufti stated. He concluded that our jihad in the battlefield cannot for an instance become separate from our jihad on the ideological battlefield.
