The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawki Allam, confirmed that the initiative of the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi that calls for renewing religious discourse has become the focus of the world’s anti-extremism circles. This came in the speech he delivered before the China-Arab countries’ two-day summit on anti-extremism being held in China’s Chengdu.
Dr. Allam confirmed that Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta exerts tremendous efforts to reach out to Muslim communities worldwide and to provide them with the necessary religious knowledge. He added that the sound fatwa is a very important tool for achieving societal stability and fostering peace among people. In this respect, Dr. Allam announced that Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta will hold an international conference in mid-October under the title, “The Role of Fatwa in Creating a Stable Society”.
We are in a dire need for a theoretical system to contest incorrect ideas and guide young Muslims to the right path, Dr Allam said. He pointed out that it is necessary to differentiate between the noble message of Islam represented in mercy and peace and the erroneous practices of extremists who distort the true image of Islam worldwide.
